Turkey has been turning its face from West to East.

Turkey has been seething with unrest since July’s apparent coup attempt. Thousands of its citizens from all walks of life have been arrested and are facing lengthy jail sentences and even death. The revolution of July is undoubtedly the most inept in history.

IT LASTED BARELY HALF A DAY

It lasted barely half a day. The cynic in me can’t help wondering if this “revolution” wasn’t stage-managed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to settle scores with his political opposition and to overturn Turkey’s democratic government and implement a theocracy, which he seems to be striving for.

TURKEY DEMANDED GULEN WITHOUT ANY EVIDENCE

Turkey has also demanded that the United States extradite Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, claiming he masterminded the coup attempt, without presenting any evidence to support this claim. The United States should not honor Turkey’s request. Further, Turkey should be cautioned that its massive arrests of opponents will lead to Turkey eventually becoming a dictatorship.
